MLS 4 The Lou

MLS 4 The Lou

On Tuesday August 20th Major League Soccer announced the city of its 28th franchise, St. Louis. Ignoring a bunch of issues regarding MLS’s rapid expanding, problems with 28+ teams, and the league heading towards a similar structure to the NFL… this is actually pretty cool. St. Louis soccer wise has a lot of things going for it and I am thrilled that St. Louis has a team in MLS. I think a club in St. Louis would be one of those next pop up huge fan bases and cultures in America.

Currently, St. Louis has the USL Championship side St. Louis FC, who’s play won’t wow you but the attention to the team is amazing. The club draws close to 5,000 fans per game (according to soccerstadiumdigest.com) and have close to 45,000 fans attending games in total this season. St. Louis also has a range of soccer clubs and teams at a lower level like St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, SLU Billikens, and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The products that have come out of, or who have been molded, by St. Louis have been some big names like; Becky Sauerbrunn, Brian McBride, Taylor Twellman, Josh Sargent, Will Bruin, Brad Davis, and more!

The history of St. Louis sports and more importantly St. Louis soccer is a great one. From the St. Louis Stars of the old NASL to now this expansion team, St. Louis is ready for this major step. More notably from yesterday’s big announcement was the open messages from others around the city like the St. Louis Blues from the NHL, St. Louis Cardinals from MLB, and other local celebrities.

St. Louis is a perfect spot for a MLS franchise and with the fact that the team will be the FIRST majority female owned club in MLS, that just makes it that much cooler! A lot of work has been put into this effort, and now MLS 4 The Lou is MLS IN The Lou.
