NYCFC Extend The Contract Of Goalkeeper Matt Freese

NYCFC have extended the contract of goalkeeper Matt Freese through the 2026 season with an option for the 2027 season. Freese was acquired by NYCFC from the Philadelphia Union before the 2023 season. The 25 year old won the Supporters’ Shield in 2020 with the Philadelphia Union and made 47 appearances between the Union and Union II before he departed.

Last season Freese eventually won the starting goalkeeper spot over Luis Barraza by the season’s end. Freese would end his 2023 season with 13 games played for the 1st team as well as an additional game for NYCFC II. In his games for NYCFC, he recorded 6 shutouts during that time. Locking down Freese for the next 3-4 seasons seems to feel like the club views him as the starting GK for the foreseeable future.
