FC Cincinnati Transfer Brandon Vazquez to Liga MX's CF Monterrey

FC Cincinnati have sold USMNT striker Brandon Vazquez to Liga MX side CF Monterrey. The 25 year old won FC Cincinnati’s first MLS trophy last season won the club won the MLS Supporters’ Shield. Vazquez was also an All Star and Best XI forward during his 2022 season with Cincinnati as well. He has 178 career games played between; FC Cincinnati, Atlanta United, Club Tijuana, and Atlanta United 2. In those games he has 60 career goals and 20 assists. Vazquez was a dual Mexican-American who decided to represent himself at the international level for the United States. In 8 USMNT caps, Vazquez has also been able to score 4 goals.

For Cincinnati, this move makes a ton of sense. Vazquez has been wanting to depart the club for a while now. Cincinnati also acquired Vazquez years ago for next to nothing financially. This allows the club to move a player on who was wanting a move and make a huge profit as well. Cincinnati does need to replace his production on the field, but they are mostly hoping that last season’s DP signing of Aaron Boupendza can bring goal production in 2024. For Vazquez, I do slightly worry about his future with the U.S. Men's National Team. The line of Liga MX American products to the USMNT hasn’t been great over the years. Only recently the likes of players like Alex Zendejas have cracked Gregg Berhalter’s team. However, if Vazquez’s production with Monterrey is influential enough, then there is no way Berhalter can’t keep him in his pool of striker options.
