Atlanta United Sign Goalkeeper Josh Cohen

Atlanta United Sign Goalkeeper Josh Cohen

Atlanta United finally secured the long awaited transfer of American goalkeeper Josh Cohen. The 31 year old keeper joins Brad Guzan as the only goalkeepers on Atlanta’s 1st team. Cohen started his career in the USL Championship playing for the likes of Sacramento Republic FC, Phoenix Rising FC, and Orange County SC. Cohen played a total of 101 games in the U.S. 2nd division combined for 34 clean sheet performances. Cohen would leave the U.S. and head to Israel to play in the Israeli Premier League. He would play 161 career games for Maccabi Haifa recording 62 career shutouts. During that time he won three Israeli Premier League titles, one Israeli Super Cup, one Israeli Toto Cup, and be named Israeli Footballer of the Year during the 2020/2021 season.

This move seems like one that secures Brad Guzan’s departure from the club. I don’t think that there is a 2024 roster in which both veteran goalkeepers are on the same roster. At this point with Guzan’s age and injury concerns, he doesn’t seem like a goalkeeper that you can rely upon at this point. Cohen should be the starter for Atlanta United moving forward after this signing.
