The Colorado Rapids Waive Danny Wilson And Sam Nicholson

The Colorado Rapids have waived two players ahead of the 2024 season. Defender Danny Wilson and winger Sam Nicholson have departed the club. The 32 year old Danny Wilson has been with the Rapids since 2018 when he arrived to the club from Rangers in Scotland. The former Scottish international defender is a Scottish Premier League Champion, two time Scottish Championship Champion, and Scottish Cup Champion. Wilson departs Colorado with 147 career games played, scoring 5 goals and 3 assists. Now it will be interesting to see where his career takes him next. Personally, I see Danny Wilson as a very strong third centerback on a MLS roster. But, there is also a very good chance that Wilson heads back to Scotland at some point before his career is over.

Similar to Wilson, Sam Nicholson is another MLS veteran departing the Rapids roster. Nicholson has been playing in Major League soccer since 2017, leaving for England for only a season and a half. The 28 year old winger will now depart Colorado for the second time in his career. He will finish his Rapids career with 91 career games, scoring 7 goals and 4 assists. Unfortunately, during his time within MLS, I never felt that Nicholson proved himself to be an impactful player.

I have to give Chris Armas a ton of credit. To start his time as manager of the Colorado Rapids, he has made a lot of intelligent roster building moves. He has signed the likes of Omir Fernandez and Miguel Navarro. He’s re-signed Sebastian Anderson and Oliver Larraz. Now, Armas has also been able to “cut some fat” and clear the likes of Danny Wilson and Sam Nicholson from the roster. I can’t sit here and feel amazing about the Rapids for 2024, but I have to give credit where credit is due.
