Nashville SC Acquire Dru Yearwood From New York Red Bulls

The celebrations around MLS Cup champions never last long. The MLS off-season has begun and with that the opening of the MLS trade window! The first trade (and unofficial start of the MLS off-season) was between the New York Red Bulls and Nashville SC. The Red Bulls traded former Young Designated Player Dru Yearwood to Nashville SC for $75,000 of GAM in 2024 and $75,000 of GAM in 2025.

The 23 year old Englishman arrives to Nashville as a U22 Initiative Player (joining Rodrigo Piniero on the roster as the only other U22 member). Yearwood never truly seemed to live up to the initial title of Young DP while in New York. He finishes his time with the Red Bulls with 99 games played, 3 goals, & 3 assists. The move makes sense for the Red Bulls as Yearwood fell down the depth chart, behind talents like Frankie Amaya and Daniel Edelman. Yearwood was also eating up a huge contract in New York, clearing up some space for the Red Bulls to make some reinforcement moves this off-season.

Nashville SC are kings of picking up disgruntled assets within MLS. With Dax McCarty leaving this off-season, Yearwood could see a major tick up of minutes and role in 2024. The potential is clearly there for the young man, but can Gary Smith unlock it? That is the question we will have to wait and see.
